Everything a new family needs to know about Cub Scouting with Pack 11 — in plain language.
What is Cub Scouting?
Cub Scouting is a year-round family adventure for kids in grades K–5 — boys and girls alike. Through games, crafts, the outdoors, and service, scouts build confidence, character, and friendships that last a lifetime.
Kids join a den of others their own age, and all the dens together make up the pack. Every new scout starts by earning the Bobcat badge, then works through their rank at their own pace — having a lot of fun along the way.

Your child joins the den that matches their grade — each with its own handbook, adventures, and neckerchief color.

Kindergarten
First steps in scouting, with a grown-up partner right alongside.

1st grade
Big adventures for first graders, with a caring adult partner.

Second graders build new skills and a little independence.

How meetings work
Den meetings
Small groups by grade that meet a couple of times a month to work on adventures, crafts, and skills — led by a friendly parent volunteer.
Pack meetings
Once a month the whole pack gathers at Long Ridge Firehouse for games, awards, and big fun — the highlight of the month.

What it costs
Scouting is one of the best values in youth activities. Here's what to expect — we'll share Pack 11's exact current amounts when you reach out.
National registration
An annual fee set by Scouting America that registers your child nationally.
Pack dues
Modest local dues that cover advancement awards, Pinewood Derby, activities, and meeting supplies.
Uniform & handbook
A one-time uniform for your child's den and their rank handbook. New scouts often receive a free handbook.
Occasional trip fees
A few events (like campouts) have a small per-scout fee. Everything else is included.
No child is ever turned away. If cost is a barrier for your family, just talk to a leader — help is available, no questions asked.
Questions parents ask
Who can join Pack 11?
Any child in grades K–5 (roughly ages 5–10) — boys and girls, and families of every background are welcome. It's never too late in the year to start.
How much time does it take?
Usually a den meeting a couple of times a month, plus one monthly pack meeting for the whole pack. Campouts and events are sprinkled through the year — you choose how much your family takes part in.
Do parents have to stay?
For our youngest scouts (Lions and Tigers), a parent or adult partner takes part alongside their child. For older dens, parents are welcome but not required to stay — though we always love an extra hand.
What should my child wear to their first meeting?
Just comfortable clothes! You don't need a uniform to come check us out. Once you join, we'll help you get the right uniform for your child's den.
Do we have to go camping?
Camping is one of the best parts of Cub Scouting, but it's never required. Come to whatever works for your family.
When can we join?
Any time of year. Lots of families start in the fall, but new scouts are welcome to join us all year long.
What does it cost — and what if money is tight?
There's a national registration fee set by Scouting America, plus modest pack dues that cover awards and activities, along with a uniform and handbook. No child is ever turned away from Pack 11 for financial reasons — just ask a leader, no questions asked.
